Tips to Beat the Heat

With the start of summer comes the increased threat for extreme heat. Heat can be easily overlooked, but is actually one of the leading weather-related killers in the United States, resulting in hundreds of fatalities each year. Anyone can be susceptible to heat related illnesses, but some people are more vulnerable than others, including young children and infants, older adults, people with chronic medical conditions, and pregnant women. Keep in mind that it is NEVER safe to leave a child, disabled person, or pet locked in a car where the temperature can quickly become deadly!

Some simple tips to beat the heat include drinking plenty of water, wearing loose-fitting, light colored clothing, and spending time in air conditioned buildings or in the shade.
